2018 Kresge Arist fellow

David was named a 2018 Kresge Artist Fellow, awarded by Kresge Arts in Detroit, a program of The Kresge Foundation. The Fellowship is awarded in recognition of a demonstrated track record of artistic achievement and high quality work, and the potential to reflect, enhance, or impact communities within metropolitan Detroit. During the Fellowship year, David extensively concertized in Detroit, performing new and daring contemporary works for solo trombone and chamber ensemble.

"The trombone has not historically been employed in classical music as a solo instrument. There is a scarcity of high quality music, chamber or otherwise, that utilizes the trombone’s vibrant expressive possibilities. I actively pursue new and rare music featuring the trombone and present these works to audiences to champion the instrument’s genuine voice of expression."
